ABOUT THE WORK
The Keeper of Ashes is a portrait suffused with symbolic gravity. Cloaked in a crimson robe and lit with near-liturgical intensity, the figure appears at once priest, warrior, and witness. His gaze meets the viewer without hesitation — composed, unblinking, and utterly still — as though summoned not to reveal, but to endure.
There’s a ritualistic quiet to the composition: the burnished skin, the restrained posture, the darkened background that isolates and elevates. In Schooneman’s world, nudity is never a spectacle; it is a language of vulnerability and authority. Here, it becomes an elegy for strength forged through sorrow — a testament to bearing witness, carrying memory, and standing at the threshold between tenderness and resolve.
ARTWORK FORMAT AND MATERIALS
Each fine art print is produced on Hahnemühle Baryta Rag — a museum-grade, 100% cotton archival paper renowned for its luxurious surface and luminous detail. Prints are surrounded by a 1.5 inch white border and are hand-signed and editioned by the artist. Works are shipped unframed to ensure preservation and collector flexibility.
