ABOUT THE WORK
A portrait of theatrical provocation, Escultura V draws on the aesthetic traditions of baroque sculpture and devotional iconography. Draped in a crimson cloth and captured mid-pose, the subject evokes the charged dynamism of Bernini’s saints—simultaneously ascending and anchored, embodied and exalted. The body becomes both spectacle and offering: a gesture of near-mythic self-possession that resists passivity.
Muscles flex and twist with controlled tension, yet the expression remains distant, contemplative. There is a studied detachment to the pose, as though the subject performs not for the viewer but for something more internal, even sacred. This image reclaims sensuality as strength—inviting the gaze while also keeping it at bay.
