The Dylan Ricci Collection — Collector Catalogue

Photographic works by Troy Schooneman (under the pseudonym Dylan Ricci), 2002–2007

Between 2002 and 2007, under the pseudonym Dylan Ricci, I created a body of work that marked my first true immersion into the male nude. The men were Thai athletes — strong, disciplined, anonymous — their faces withheld, their identities protected. In this anonymity, the body itself became the subject: faceless, timeless, elemental. Flesh became marble, muscle became architecture, light and shadow the language through which beauty was revealed.

At the time, the pseudonym was necessary — for my subjects and for myself. Many of the photographs were full-frontal works, unapologetic in their physicality, and I feared that a world outside the studio might misunderstand their intent. To preserve both privacy and possibility, I allowed Dylan Ricci to stand in my place.

And yet, the images carried their own authority. They travelled further than I could have anticipated: published in international anthologies, exhibited abroad, and acquired by collectors worldwide. Several works entered the collection of Pierre Borhan — the great French art historian whose discerning eye helped shape the modern canon of the male nude. After his death, those prints were sold at auction, further embedding the work within the critical history of the genre. Critics compared their chiaroscuro to Renaissance art, praising the classical restraint, purity, and sculptural presence.

The 2025 release of The Dylan Ricci Collection presents these photographs anew. While most appear as they did when first exhibited, others have been subtly reworked, their tonalities refined for contemporary printmaking. A number of works are being offered for the very first time, never before published until now. These new editions are distinct from those sold between 2002 and 2007 — created in fresh, strictly limited runs, each signed and numbered, printed on museum-grade archival paper to preserve their tactile depth and tonal nuance.

This collection, once hidden, now stands revealed — not as an alias, but as part of my history. Dylan Ricci was always me.

Each edition is strictly limited, signed and numbered, and printed using the highest-quality materials to preserve tonal nuance and tactile depth. Once an edition is sold out, no further prints will be made.
